About
The Worldwatch Institute works through its research, outreach and on-the-ground projects to speed up the shift to an environmentally sustainable world that meets human needs. Founded in 1974, Worldwatch is an independent think and impact tank that impartially analyzes critical environmental and development problems and proposes innovations, policies and changes in individual behavior that address those problems. The Institute’s publications—notably the series State of the World published annually since 1984—are published in dozens of languages. Their work gains comparable U.S. and global attention from policymakers and the news media, with broadcast and press clippings surpassing 500 in 2010 and 2011.
The institute works primarily though not exclusively in three program areas. The programs prioritize access to low-carbon energy and nutritious food for all, action on gender and population rooted in human rights, and transformative cultural and economic change.
