Frequently Asked Questions

The Giving Library was created to help philanthropists “give smart,” meaning make informed and impactful decisions with respect to giving. Through the Giving Library, philanthropists can practically and efficiently explore a large number of giving opportunities and thereby increase their knowledge and enhance their strategic charitable giving.

The Giving Library serves high-level philanthropists; public, private, and corporate foundations; charitable organizations; and everyday people interested in strategic charitable giving.

The Giving Library selected U.S.-based nonprofit organizations with various charitable missions – from large to small, well-known to relatively unknown, established to emerging – in order to give philanthropists a menu of options within each cause. Also, with an understanding that not all philanthropists focus on the same causes, the Giving Library provides an array of categories and subcategories that cover a number of possible giving concentrations.

If your nonprofit organization is interested in participating in the Giving Library, please complete the application here.

The Giving Library’s questions were designed by philanthropists to model an in-depth exchange between a donor and a nonprofit organization in a traditional, face-to-face meeting. What before required time, travel, and associated expenses can now be done quickly and efficiently from anywhere.

By registering for an account, you will be able to bookmark specific nonprofit organizations, save your preferences, and communicate through the Connection Center with organizations that interest you.

The Connection Center is a forum for anonymous communication that provides philanthropists with the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with nonprofit organizations. It empowers philanthropists to more deeply explore giving opportunities through meaningful dialogue without the traditional pressures of initiating such conversations. To use the Connection Center, simply register for a Giving Library account and start connecting.

Similar to other social media sites, the “recommend” feature, located on each organization’s profile page, allows users to quickly and easily support favored nonprofit organizations within the Giving Library, post organization profiles to social media outlets, or simply share the organization with someone else. Organizations that are most often recommended may be featured on the Giving Library’s homepage.
