Founded in 1992, Youth Radio is nationally recognized as the leader in youth media production. Youth Radio’s mission is to expand education and career opportunities for diverse youth, in particular those from low-income backgrounds, through hands-on education in media and technology. Youth Radio empowers young people’s leadership capacity and strengthens their communities through direct access to major media outlets and audiences, producing journalism and related content of the highest award-winning quality.

Grounded in a deep commitment to youth development, Youth Radio provides students with intensive training in journalism and media production and also provides academic support, college guidance, mental health support, leadership development, internship opportunities, and case management, all within a context of sustained support from adults and peers.

Youth Radio has been widely recognized for journalistic excellence, winning numerous awards, including two George Foster Peabody Awards, four Edward R. Murrow Awards and the Alfred I. duPont/Columbia University Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
