Our mission is to reduce the economic and social burden of obesity and obesity-related, chronic disease by improving the quality of science in nutrition and obesity research.
About Us
Current dietary guidelines and food-based policies are based on beliefs and preconceptions, not on rigorous, scientific evidence. This shortcoming may be one primary factor driving the recent epidemics of obesity and diabetes, and it may be causally related to the diseases associated with these conditions, including heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to the millions of lives lost prematurely, these diseases place an enormous economic burden our society. Beyond the economic burden of chronic illness and the premature loss of life, the social costs of obesity and associated chronic diseases are unacceptable.
The solution to this problem is achievable: the introduction of rigorous, scientific evidence as the foundation of dietary guidelines and food-based policies that can unequivocally prevent these diseases and reduce their associated morbidity and mortality.
