The mission of Literacy Advance of Houston is to transform lives and communities through the doorway of literacy.About Us
Since 1964, our programs have provided the opportunity for low-literate adults to achieve self-sufficiency and personal growth through their improved literacy skills. Trained, volunteer tutors help deliver a variety of free, literacy programs at multiple locations across the Houston area. In addition to tutoring, volunteers are also instrumental in other areas, including advocacy, family literacy, and more. Literacy Advance understands that a literate community is an economically thriving community. Each year we serve thousands of low-literate adults and their families. Our students learn the skills to become better workers, better parents, and better neighbors.
