About Us
IDEA Public Schools is a rapidly growing, K-12, open enrollment, public charter school system based in the Rio Grande Valley. IDEA’s mission is to prepare students from underserved communities to apply, matriculate, and succeed in four-year colleges and universities. Since 2007, 100% of IDEA graduates have enrolled in the college or university of their choice. For two years in a row, IDEA has been rated an exemplary school district by the Texas Education Agency. IDEA currently operates 20 schools serving over 9,000 students in the Rio Grande Valley. IDEA students are 82% low-income and 94% Hispanic. In 2012-2013, IDEA expanded into new markets, opening new schools in Austin, San Antonio, McAllen, and Brownsville. By the 2017-2018 school year, IDEA will operate a total of 54 schools in south and central Texas. When current IDEA schools are at-scale, IDEA will be the largest producer of low-income, Hispanic college graduates in the state of Texas.
