Rachel Abramson is retiring at the end of June after 32 years of leadership at HealthConnectOne. Rachel sees healthy births as the cornerstone of a healthy community, and believes that our society will do well only when our children are healthy and thriving, starting at birth. As a nurse, Rachel first realized how much was at stake during the amazing childbearing year. HealthConnect One showed how community-based doulas act on this moment to serve new mothers, transforming their lives and that of their newborns. Rachel’s vision was to train and support grassroots leaders in this most powerful work; strengthening their voices and equipping them to carry on the fight to improve birth equity and reproductive justice in their own communities. It takes a lot to create an organization- a strong partner like Jere McKinley, HC One's Program Director, a wonderful Board of Directors, and a committed group of staff willing to challenge assumptions to build best practice. Rachel has harness these strengths and dug deeply into her own reserves of belief and energy to build the remarkable organization of HealthConnect One. In honor of Rachel, we ask that you consider donating to The Legacy Fund to build a new generation of grassroots leaders working with birthing families. Your donation will honor Rachel’s vision that change happens through the personal relationships between the community-based doulas and new mothers and through their collective voices to build communities where all children and families can flourish in good health. You can donate online : https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/healthconnectone (please designate your gift for the Legacy Fund).
