Mission Statement
Fountain House is dedicated to the recovery of men and women with mental illness by providing opportunities for our members to live, work, and learn, while contributing their talents through a community of mutual support. We are committed, as we have been since 1948, to bettering the lives of people with mental illness everywhere. We do this through the development of innovative techniques, research, and sharing knowledge with others. Our goal is a high quality of life for all members, ongoing improvement, and the ultimate elimination of stigma against those with mental illness. Success depends upon our ability to inspire partnerships between members, staff, board members, corporate partners, medical providers, and the larger community.About Us

It was founded in 1948 on the premise that people are active partners in their recovery. Our goal is to ensure that people with mental illness have the opportunity to build healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives.A hallmark of Fountain House is its inclusive and highly collaborative culture. Its innovative, working-community model helps to alleviate the stigma and isolation of living with mental illness and supports people in their efforts to rebuild their lives.
The effectiveness of the Fountain House model is widely acknowledged and is listed as “evidence-based” on the registry of the National Institute of Mental Health. This model has been replicated in more than 400 locations in 30 countries and 32 states. We are committed to its continued development through research, innovation, and training.
