Changing lives - One bike at a time!About Us
Elves & More helps underprivileged children stay in school and stay out of trouble. We use every child’s favorite gift - a new bicycle - as a powerful incentive in earn-a-bike contracts between students and teachers. Teachers set one goal for each child, and students sign contracts to meet or beat their goals.Those who do meet their targets get rewarded with brand-new bicycles from Elves & More, just before Christmas. It’s not a handout. It’s a hand up.
Typically students improve their scores one full letter grade, with most of those in the “failing” category improving to a passing score. Those at the top of the class improve one-third to one-half a letter grade. Eighty percent of our bikes are dedicated to reading - the single most important subject in school.
With bikes, some children also gain new opportunities to participate in after-school programs. There, caring adults can become their mentors, too.
