The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights has a long history of positive change that breaks the cycle of disinvestment in communities of color. We have achieved victories hard to imagine. In 16 years, we:• Stopped the construction of a Super Jail for youth in Alameda County
• Jump-started the green-collar jobs movement and passed the federal 2007 Green Jobs Act
• Closed five of the eight abusive youth prisons in California
• Partnered with the California Teachers Association to defeat Proposition 6, a "dumb on crime, tough on the budget" ballot measure
• Drafted and passed a national model for community-led climate adaption and greenhouse gas reduction planning
• Launched innovative organizations and coalitions that help meet the needs of our communities and our nation, including Green for All, FIERCE, Urban Peace Movement, Oakland Rising, and Communities United.
