Mission Statement

The mission of Avondale House is to provide children and young adults with autism the education and training to develop to their fullest potential.

About Us

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit agency that provides, primarily, educational services to children with autism. To that end, we operate a year-round day school where we serve more than 60 students from numerous school districts, ranging in age from 3-21 years old. We also have a smaller, day-habilitation program for young adults, where nearly 30 clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities.

The agency also operates three residential group homes in southwest Houston for 18 clients who are unable to live in their own homes. Additionally, Avondale House offers a community education and outreach program for parents, families, and professionals raising and working with individuals with autism and ancillary, or a-la-carte services, for individuals who may not be enrolled in our other programs.

Avondale House recognizes that each individual with autism has unique strengths and needs and utilizes various training strategies to support their different learning styles. By taking this approach and by remaining open and receptive to the new and the old, Avondale House programs are effective in promoting positive changes in those we serve.

Reaching for the Stars Luncheon

Avondale House will hold its annual Challenging Autism fundraising luncheon at the Junior League of Houston on March 31, 2014. For this year's program, Reaching for the Stars, we welcome Dr. Scott Parazynski as our guest speaker. Dr. Parazynski is a former astronaut, physician, Mount Everest climber, inventor, and perhaps most notably, the parent of a child with autism--Dr. Parazynski's daughter attends Avondale's day school. Join us as our speaker will share the challenges and rewards relating to his personal and professional accomplishments, along with those associated with raising a child on the autism spectrum. Visit www.avondalehouse.org for more information.
